The Wing balans® supports you in the open balans® ‘kneeling’ posture instead of the erect or right-angled posture imposed by traditional office chairs. This creates a balanced torso and allows your spine to find its natural curve while strengthening your back muscles. With an open angle between torso and thighs breathing and thus oxygen supply is enhanced. The casters make it ideal for work that involves a lot of movement. They are flexible, so the chair responds to your body weight to tip you forwards or backwards, encouraging regular shifts in posture. The Wing balans® also comes with an adjustable gas lift, making it easily adjustable to a range of activities and different desk heights. (The image below shows the old model - please note that the new model comes with the black plastic base only.)

Your body is designed for movement, but spends most of the day sitting still. The result: a variety of aches and pains. The Thatsit balans® gives your body the mobility it needs. It’s the chair your body has been asking for.

The Thatsit balans® is the ideal chair for your daily deskwork. Runners and height-adjustable kneepads promote an open and dynamic sitting position that keeps your spine in its natural curvature and allows deep breathing. The chair gives your body the freedom to find its own equilibrium which keeps your back and abdominal muscles working. While tension in back and shoulders is prevented, this ‘active sitting’ improves circulation. Therefore oxygen levels and thus concentration and creativity are increased during your work. The adjustable back rest is designed to offer full support during relaxation. With the arms on the ‘wings’ you can stretch your upper body, raise your rib cage and breathe more deeply and freely.

Varier's unique collection of kneeeling chairs offers ergonomic chairs for desk work, home office and dining, that promote movement and variation to keep the body in its natural state of activity. The unconventional design of the kneeling chair keeps the spine in its natural curvature and the spinal disks dynamic; blood circulation is active and oxygen supply is improved, leading to better concentration and overall wellbeing. This principle is mirrored in the range of Saddle Stools we also supply at Shape, due to the position of the knee joint in relation to the pelvis.

The kneeling chair range includes the ever popular Variable Kneeling Stool.

Symmetry & Position:
It's symmetrical design allows the use of both hands evenly. It may be used either with the roll closer to the keyboard (default position) or closer to the body.

Force:
The programmable buttons require only 50-to-70 Newtons/grams of force to activate (most mice require 2-3 times that!) and allow the user to speed up repetitive functions - significantly reducing the strain of "mousing."

Design Within the User's Comfort Zone:
Functional, comfortable surface materials and size proportions are a key part of this product's design. The top surface does not promote the formation of sweat on the user's arms. The roll bar is much larger in diameter than other roll-using peripherals allowing for precise cursor motion with less manual effort, greater comfort and a quicker learning curve. The surface of the bar and the buttons is smooth to the touch. Because of these intrinsic values, users new to ergonomic products employing the CPD method who find that it is at first unfamiliar to maneuver a cursor onscreen with a centered pointing device and roll bar should expect any initial discomfort to disappear in 3-7 days of regular use.

Improve your Posture...

At Shape we are often asked what the best chair is, or what they can do to improve their posture. The answer is often more complicated than first thought as it can depend on a number of factors. If you are suffering with discomfort and want to get the best advice possible, we would always advise a DSE workplace assessment. At Shape we have a number of trained assessors who can come to you to assess your workstation, providing you with the advice you need.

DSE Assessments

The DSE assessments will look at the following factors:

RISK ANALYSIS
WORKSTATION DESIGN
ENVIRONMENT
EQUIPMENT NEEDS
POSTURE
INTERVIEW WITH END-USER TO DETERMINE REQUIREMENTS/MEDICAL HISTORY ETC.

DETAILED ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS TAKEN
FULL WRITTEN REPORT WITH FINDINGS AND SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS

It may be that you have already had a workplace assessment and would simply like some advice on what equipment would be suitable. In that case, we can provide equipment suggestions for you based on the identified needs:

SEATING Assessment

There will be times where just an assessment of the seating for an individual is required. Our assessors have over 8 years of experience in assessing and suggesting suitable equipment. Our seating assessments will look at the following factors

The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 require Assessments of workstations to be undertaken to ensure that ergonomic and other hazards are presented to employees.

Although the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 apply only to those staff formally designated as "Users" under the Regulations, the general legal duty of care and the requirement under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 for the assessment of risks involved with work means that ALL display screen equipment (DSE) work and workstations must be assessed and any risks involved adequately controlled.

The risks relate to musculo-skeletal problems, visual fatigue and mental stress and are not confined to this type of work. It is known, however, that the risk of harm to an individual worker carrying out typical display screen work is low and can be reduced to a negligible level by the application of good ergonomic principles to the design of the workstation and the job.

The term "workstation" is used to describe accessories such as printers and modems, the furniture, the telephone and the surrounding work environment in addition to the display screen equipment itself, the most familiar of which is the personal computer used for applications such as word processing.

For more information about how our DSE assessment service can help your organisation, please contact us on info@shape-seating.com and we will call you straight back.

Our assessors are qualified under the British Occupational Hygeine Society, Faculty of Occupational Hygeine, Ergonomics Essentials including Manual Handling and DSE.

We operate mainly in South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, including Sheffield, Rotherham, Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford, Manchester, Stockport, Nottingham, Leicester, Mansfield, Derby, Chesterfield, Stoke on Trent and Birmingham.

We also work closely with ergonomic assessors across the country and would be happy to put you in touch with an assessor near you for a more local service is you prefer. Please contact us for more information.

Do you suffer with back pain?

Working in a traditional office chair can promote a poor posture, increase loads to the spine and increase the potential for back pain. In order to prevent, or help relieve existing back problems, we feel that it is important to sit in a good ergonomic office chair that supports the body in a good posture.

But what type of ergonomic office chair is best? There are many types of ergonomic chairs available for use in the office or at home. Shape Posture Seating offer a wide range of ergonomic office chairs in the UK, including the hugely popular RH Logic 300 and logic 400, Grahl and BMA Axia chairs.

Many 'ergonomic chairs' exist today, with the term 'ergonomics' widely used, and in some cases misused. Shape Posture Seating are dedicated specialists in the field of ergonomic seating and our primary aim is to find a chair that suits you - that is after all the ethos behind ergonomics. (We do not sell cheap ergonomic office chairs as we have not yet found one that can be truly called ergonomic (However, our range of Sven G1 and MDK can offer a cost effective alternative - see Budget Ergonomic Chairs).

The Obusforme CustomAir is a lightweight padded portable backrest with an integral lumbar pump. Combined with the Obusforme Moulded Seat this makes a very effective solution for providing support wherever you are. The curved pad provides support in the lumbar region helping to maintain the natural curve of your spine.

The back support comes with an elastic strap to place over the back of any existing chair to keep the back support in place. Then simply pump the lumbar curve to suit your back and relax.
