Respecting the environment is protecting the well-being of humans. HÅG operates according to the principle that every company has responsibilities above and beyond simply earning money. We have an obligation to preserve our com- mon environment and display social accountability. We decided to become a beacon, leading the way into a new environmental era. This requires great effort and we con- stantly work on concrete measures and being a model for others to follow.

In 1995, HÅG started to use recycled car bumpers and plastic waste for the plastic components of our chairs, and we were the first office chair manufacturer to become ISO 14001 certified, EMAS registered and ISO 14025 certified (the Environmental Product Declaration, EPD). As the first European furniture manufacturer, HÅG was certified by the Greenguard Environmental Institute in the USA. This certificate guarantees that HÅG products do not contain hazardous substances or emit pollutants.

As the user of a HÅG chair, you will not be exposed to substances that pose a health risk or pollute the indoor environment. HÅG also contributes towards reducing global greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) by purchasing certificates that guarantee that 100% of the factory’s electricity consumption comes from renewable energy sources. Our goal is that HÅG, as a responsible corporate citizen, shall at all times provide users with the best possible sitting solutions having taken all environmental conside- rations into account.

RH Form

RH Chairs is one of the first office chair manufacturers to gain certification in accordance with the International EPD System.

The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a type III environmental label aimed at providing scientifically based, verified and comparable information on the environmental performance of products in different categories. It is based on a lifecycle assessment (LCA) of the product in question, and provides quantitative data on the environmental performance of the product.

The “International EPD System” was launched in early 2008 as a revision of other EPD programs that have been in use for almost a decade in different European and Asian countries. The RH Ambio, RH Extend 120 and RH Logic 400 are the first office chairs to receive pre-certification according to the International EPD System.

RH Chairs’ EPDs are based on an LCA performed by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, which presents the environmental performance of the products according to the following impact categories:

Photochemical oxidant formation

Eutrophication

Generation of waste (hazardous and non-hazardous)

Data was gathered internally, from published data and from questionnaires distributed to suppliers. The evaluation was verified by a third party to ensure compliance with ISO 14025, allowing it to be used for external communication purposes.

RH Form's objective is that both their office chairs and work chairs should be ergonomic for the body, and just as gentle on the environment. That is why all our chairs are 100% recyclable. And many of the components are made from recycled materials. Ventec™ is now 100% biodegradable. Our manufacturing process also takes energy consumption into consideration. And when your RH chair has come to the end of its working life, simply return the chair to RH and they will recycle every last bit. All this means that we are certified in accordance with ISO 14001.
